August Athletes Of The Month Selected

Regina JaquessUSA Water Ski has selected Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) as its Male Athlete of the Month and Female Athlete of the Month, respectively, for August. The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) was selected Team of the Month. Krueger and Jaquess are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee’s Athlete of the Month honors.

2015 Disabled Water Ski Team Selected

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski, has announced the selection of the 2015 U.S. Disabled Water Ski Team that will compete in the 12th Disabled Water Ski World Championships, Sept. 21-27, 2015, in Elk Grove, Calif. The selections were announced following the conclusion of the 2014 Disabled Water Ski National Championships, Aug. 29-31, in Talking Rock, Ga.

Eight Athletes Win Titles At WSDA Nationals

Eight athletes won national titles at the 23rd Disabled Water Ski National Championships, sponsored by the Shepherd Center and the Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Foundation, Aug. 29-31, at Whitestone Lake Estates in Talking Rock, Ga. The Disabled Nationals featured the United States’ top disabled water ski athletes competing for national titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.

U.S. Teams Sweep 2014 Can Am Titles

The U.S. Under 17 and Under 13 Water Ski Teams each won titles at the 7th Can Am Team Challenge, Aug. 30-31, at the Lake of Dreams in Jerseyville, Ill. The two-day, world-record capability event featured team competitions between Canada and the United States. A six-member Under 17 Team and a six-member Under 13 Team represented each country.

WSDA 2014-2015 Officers Announced

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association has announced its slate of officers for 2014-12015. Officer positions include Chad Guzman, chairman of the board; Matt Oberholtz, president; Jim Grew, vice president; and Lisa Ruger, treasurer.

The 35+ Water Ski World Championships will be held Oct. 8-12 at Sunset Lakes in Groveland, Fla. With nearly 400 water ski athletes competing on two lakes over five days, the local organizing club is seeking volunteers. Areas of need include dock starters and trick video operators.

AWSA Jump Ramp Surface Notification

A request was issued to AWSA Technical Committee Co-Chair Jerry Jackson from IWWF Tournament Council Chair Bob Corson to investigate ramp modifications/designs using a formed lip/curve to enhance skier performances. Per AWSA Rule 1.12 and 9.16(5), all jump surfaces are to be FLAT. Any jumps built or modified with a design lip or curve surface with the intent to enhance skier performances must be restored back to a flat surface prior to the site’s next tournament.
